I am using TIESlippyMaps to great effect by plotting symbols and values on the canvas.

What would be great though to make the values and symbols stand out a bit more clearer, would be to make the map a bit more opaque, by taking the color out of it to some degree or applying a mask - you see the same effect when windows is closing and all but a dialog is somehow greyed out.

What I have in mind is a global effect but I'm sure you could just grey out the edges and leave a circle clear centered on the location you were interested in.

Anyway I'm sure this is possible when dealing with a single image by using a 'proc' call, but how could I make this work in a slippy map?

 Bruce.

A quick suggestion to get the ball rolling, have you considered a (non-visible) elliptical selection with iesoMarkOuter?
