The one thing I always dread is moving up to a new version of either the IDE or any component. I spend the money and download the latest version and then am literally too scared to install it, I figured what could I lose - big mistake.
Anyway, I read in the Forum that you could install the new version alongside the old version without any problem, so I opted to install to a new folder. The install went fine but when I opened up Delphi XE6 I get this.
The ImageEN DB controls package loads (with 2 components) but the ImageEN controls doesn't. I checked the library paths and made sure that they were set correctly, and as you can see from the screenshot, I do have a copy of the DPKIECTRL20.bpl. Repeated attempts to remove and then add the controls package failed.
My next move was to uninstall and reinstall using the same original folder that I had used for ImageEN v5.2 and forget about the old version. Same thing. The paths in the library are set correctly but the DPKIECTRL20.bpl still refuses to install.
Is there a step that I'm missing? I'm now stuck without any ImageEN components, which for me is a disaster.

For some of my older (non-ImageEn) projects I am still stuck in D2007 :-(

Sorry, I got the wrong end of the stick as I so often do, all seems well now though.
I really would like to upgrade to 10.2, but may have to stick with XE6 because of the price.

Hi
In that situation, Uwe was installing for a different version of Delphi, i.e. Old Delphi + Old ImageEn, New Delphi + New ImageEn, whereas I assumed in this situation you were using the same version of Delphi and upgrading ImageEn.
Actually, looking properly at these error messages, you are not getting a file clash, but some bizarre install issue. It's not common, but I have seen it before.

Hi Bruce
Can you point me to the forum message where it said it was OK to install alongside the old version? That is not a path I would recommend, because clashing versions is the main cause of upgrade issues. In fact, it is best to uninstall the old version and then install the new version to the same location.

Good news!
I restarted my PC (again), and tried the manual install once more - this time it worked!
So all's well again in my world, but I don't know why the install didn't do it all automatically.

I've since tried loading the DPKIECTRL20.dpk file (from the XE6 source folder) into the IDE and tried to manually install the components by clicking the install button, but get the following error:-
