Can't scan using TWAIN for Xerox Documate 3220

We're using ImageEn 4.0.2, but we tested with TwainDemo downloaded today. Attempting to scan using TWAIN driver does not work. The call to scan comes back without an image. The scanner never starts the scan. If we show the driver's UI, the buttons change state to act like the scan is going to start, then immediately reset back to the pre-scan state.

Note, however, using TwainDemo and scanning through the WIA bridge does work. Our application prevents users from using the WIA bridge due to incompatibilities. For example, the bridge does not support duplex printing even when the TWAIN driver/device does.

Also tested with http://www.twain.org/scannerserviceproviders/specification-and-tools/129-tools.html and we're able to scan using the TWAIN driver. We're also able to scan using MSPaint and the scanning application that came with the scanner.

Since Twack_32 works but TwainDemo does not, I believe the issue is in ImageEn. How do we proceed with getting log output or something for you?

Any suggestions? Does ImageEn have some log or debug output during scanning that I can turn on to help determine why the scan is failing?

in the other topic talking about Xerox, Fabrizio show you how to activate logs,

this is his answer :

"JonRobertson, could you post the twain "log", setting for example ImageEnView.IO.TwainParams.LogFile:='c:\twainlog.txt'?"

Well, it took a very long time to get back to this issue. However, the issue is still occurring and I now have the log. Since I can't post it as a separate file, I'm pasting the log below. It is 3,149 lines long.

Is there anything else you need from me? Have you started looking at this log yet?

Thanks

Please could re-test the latest twain demo of ImageEn? What you used is quite old.
Unfortunately the log doesn't tell useful info for this case.

I will put that on the list. Unfortunately, pushing a third-party component through our development cycle takes some time and it won't be quick to get it to the customer.

For some reason, I did not receive a notification that this thread was updated. I can see that I'm subscribed to it. I'll double-check my junk filter...

I just downloaded 4.3.0. Is that recent enough or do I need to use 4.3.1 or 4.3.2? (I'd rather not use 4.3.2 beta, but if it does more logging than 4.3.1, it might be worth the risk.)

4.3.1 should be ok. 4.3.2 does not have enhancements on twain side.

Our customer that was using a Xerox Documate 3220 changed to a different scanner. However, we now have a new customer that is trying to use a Xerox Documate 152 and we're seeing the same issue. I have two logs generated from ImageEn 4.3.1. Unfortunately they still don't seem to have much useful information. Everything seems ok until the data source is called. The log says an error was reported to the user, but we never see an error using IE's TwainDemo.

I zipped the two logs and attached them to this message.

./attach/JonRobertson/201452164726_XeroxDocumateIssue.zip

Hi

We've made some improvements to our twain scanning code, which will be available in v5.1.2.

Unfortunately your log indicates an error at the end of scanning without sufficient detail to diagnose. While it would be tempting simply to suppress the error, without the machine, we could not be sure whether that would cause worse downstream issues.

Do you have an ETA for 5.1.2? Or could I perhaps have access to a beta version? I'm not going to update our application until after 5.1.2 is released and only if 5.1.2 resolves this particular error.

I want to rebuild the TWAIN demo with the changes in 5.1.2 so we can retest with this scanner.

Thanks

Hi

V5.1.2 should be ready in August. I can send you a beta when I am back in the office at the end of July, or if it is urgent, we might be able to arrange something sooner.
